ciPTEC – Human Proximal Tubular Epithelial Cells (PTECs)
Renal proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs) play a vital role in reabsorbing solutes and excreting waste and xenobiotics. Due to their expression of drug transporters (e.g., OAT1, OCT2, P-gp, MRP4, and BCRP), PTECs are prone to drug-induced toxicity.
ciPTEC is a conditionally immortalized human renal cell line that mimics proximal tubule functionality. These cells express key markers (alkaline phosphatase, DPP-IV, and ZO-1), maintain sodium-dependent phosphate transport, organic cation transport (OCT2), and exhibit multidrug resistance protein activity (MRP2/4, ABCB1, ABCG2), along with metabolic enzyme functionality.
